As you can see from the video shot earlier this week it takes a lot to put our big boy badger off his peanut butter sandwiches and peanuts!
The badgers coming for long feasts during the night; sometimes he is here for 9.20pm and has been seen at 4.50am!
The fox is still coming too. She waits until the badger has gone for a wander before moving in for the leftovers! When I check the camera we get the badger, then the fox then the badger again!
Among the birds we are seeing are lots of goldfinch, blue, great and coal tits, bullfinch (including lots of juvenile birds), a nuthatch, and lots of greenfinch. A recent decline in the numbers of British greenfinch has been linked to an outbreak of trichomonosis, a parasite-induced disease which prevents the birds from feeding properly. We did notice a decline earlier in the year but now we are seeing record numbers, sometimes as many as eight or nine at a time! The long tail tits are coming more frequently in their raiding parties- one minute they are here, the next they’ve gone on to another feeding station.
