Today has been a good day for being some of old friends. We presume that we have not seen many species lately because food elsewhere is plentiful and there is no need to visit our feeders. We have been particularly concerned about the greenfinches as disease has led to a large drop in the population nationally.
Late afternoon we had this lone greenfinch followed by a pair later in the day.
The goldfinch tend to feed all day. Our largest flock, or charm, on our side feeders has been in excess of 22 birds.
We hadn’t seen the bull finches for a while but both male and female were feeding when I got up this morning.
If you are expecting news of the blue tit nest well she’s still there! I cannot get as good a picture of the eggs (should be 7 now) as she’s gone back to burying them.
